lock revision

The Z1 side door locks have not been built by BoMoRo/Bosch/Brose since 2002 and BMW no longer sells them either!

Due to the complexity of the lock with its 47 individual parts  definitely no new ones built either.

The locks that are circulating as "new" often hit the same  Error, namely that the original 2-stage micro switch is already defective before the lock has even been used, due to improper storage.

The next problem is the aging of the BMW KTB G2 grease used: it has gummed up, components have evaporated and the additives are ineffective, which is noticeable during use through sluggishness, squeaking, rattling and high wear with extended actuation paths.

The engine oil is not changed every year without reason! At the age of more than 26 years, the lock should therefore be subjected to maintenance, during which all functions are checked, cleaned, greased, loose parts are replaced, damaged parts are replaced, the microswitch is particularly affected.

Why maintenance?
• Main functions such as closing, opening inside/outside, must give signals
be guaranteed
• Ancillary functions such as holding the rods, shaft, fixing on
door lifter module and on the vehicle must be retained
• Undesirable features such as squeaking, rattling, rusting, and binding
Clamps should be avoided

The locks that are in circulation as "new" often meet the same fault, namely that the original 2-stage micro switch is already defective before the lock has even been used, due to improper storage. The old variant of the 2-stage microswitch never left the prototype stage and was therefore never properly tested. Due to the concept of the arc-shaped actuation of the switch, wear and tear was also designed into it; the switch housings were already pre-damaged during the non-positive mounting on the lock.

02 T he proper cleaning

We clean the locks professionally

03 rivets

We use a wobble riveting process that attaches the rivets more firmly and more securely than was previously the case. If a rivet is loose or even completely missing, we can replace it and thus restore functionality.
